Full Moon in Virgo 2024

On February 24th, 2024, the Full Moon will be illuminated at 5 degrees of Virgo. This lunar cycle has a potent energy of intense analysis, integration, and mutation. We're encouraged to find flexibility amid these dense energies, but it isn’t going to be easy. A Full Moon occurs when the Sun is in direct opposition to the Moon, illuminating the full, radiant energy the moon carries within the realm of the zodiac sign it occupies. This may cause our emotions to amplify, as well as bring hidden subconscious thoughts and patterns to our conscious awareness for healing. Essentially, the Sun is spotlighting anything we are suppressing within our psyche. With this transit, the Sun is in Pisces, a mutable water sign, and it is illuminating the Moon in the realm of Virgo, a mutable earth sign. We have to flow with the emotions and not allow them to become a part of our identity. The intention here is to analyze (Virgo) the emotions that come through: look at them, identify the source of them, and consider whether these emotions are helpful or hurtful to your daily life and long-term commitments. In psychology, we consider these emotions/actions to carry the energy of either ‘distress’ or ‘eustress’: distress refers to anxiety, sorrow, and pain that is harmful to the individual/psyche; eustress refers to beneficial stressors to promote growth within the individual/psyche. In either scenario, we aren’t meant to attach ourselves to these emotions with both the Sun and Moon occupying mutable signs - feel it, flow with it, and grow with it.

The Sun, at 5 degrees of Pisces is sitting between Mercury (2 degrees) and Saturn (9 degrees) - this is considered to be a conjunction of these celestial bodies, where the energies become blended. (The exact conjunction will be at 9 degrees of Pisces later in the month.) Pisces is a mutable water sign that relates to the collective unconscious and is concerned with universal self-sacrificing love, compassion, and forgiveness. This is the most spiritual and intuitive sign of the zodiac. Pisces understands that universal love is the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega. Pisces transcends personal and societal views of compassion and love in favor of a boundless love that connects the universal whole and asks us to relate to each other through our primary common element: the understanding that we are all human. Mercury, the ruler of intellect, logic, and communication, is at its detriment in Pisces. This is where he is challenged, and not operating at full strength. Do not be surprised if communication seems scattered and strange, whether that’s internal or external, in person or virtual. Saturn, the ruler of structure, boundaries, and discipline, is also challenged as he travels through the realm of Pisces. Saturn becomes philosophical as he tries to implement his qualities in the watery realm of the dreamer. With this stellium (Mercury, the Sun, and Saturn occupying the same sign), we may experience a lot of mental strain, indecisiveness, and confusion. These feelings are natural at this time. It is important to ground ourselves so that we don’t get lost in these energies and equate these energies with our identity You are not your emotions, you are a human who experiences emotions. We aren’t meant to have it all figured out right now - we are meant to flow with the information being presented,  analyze it to the best of our abilities, and finally, implement changes for personal transformation.

The Moon is in direct opposition to this Mercury-Sun-Saturn stellium at 5 degrees of Virgo. Virgo is a mutable earth sign and is the opposite sign of Pisces. Pisces is concerned with the whole of the collective unconscious, therefore Virgo is concerned with the individual pursuits of selfless service to the collective conscious. Earth sign energy represents the crystallization of spirit into matter, and assesses our capacity to work with the material world. Specifically with this full moon, the energy of Virgo is content in finding what does not align with the spiritual evolution of humanity and implementing a plan to fix it. Virgo is not concerned with immediate gratification but instead relies on the process of fixing, improving, and correcting. It’s important to analyze the emotions that come up during this lunar phase and apply consistent action toward improvement.

  • What emotions are being illuminated within you?

  • How are these emotions affecting your health? (Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual)

  • What needs to be released to obtain proper alignment with your soul?

  • What tools are available to you to help you achieve this alignment?

An additional event worth considering with this full moon is Jupiter in Taurus in a trine to the Moon in Virgo. Jupiter is a benefic planet and can bring expansion, vision, faith, and wisdom. With his transit through Taurus, Jupiter’s trine to the Moon is helping us ground these changes into our reality at the moment. While I stated earlier that we aren’t meant to have everything figured out right now, those positive changes that we can implement now have a great chance of successful, positive change in the future. Consider incorporating one small thing you can do daily that will better serve your health in all aspects: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Then, commit to that one small change regularly. (You’d be amazed at what one glass of water first thing in the morning could do!) The shadow side of Jupiter is that sometimes too much of a good thing can be harmful for us, for example: too much candy can give us a stomach ache, or worse, a toothache. Slow, steady, and purpose-driven action are the underlying themes of this full moon, and Jupiter wants to deliver your gifts in the future.

This is a great time for healing, but it is a lot deeper than that because nothing feels normal right now. How can we heal if we don’t even know what “normal” looks like? We cannot argue that what we experienced in our past was normal because it wasn’t working. We are all constantly evolving. We are all constantly learning. We are all upgrading our souls to hold higher frequencies for our light bodies. We are all currently in an exploratory phase for our generations, where Pluto - the generational, transformational planet - has just recently entered Aquarius. All of these energies are extremely new to us. We haven’t experienced any of this yet, with the planet of transformation only now reaching the early degrees of a new sign.

We are meant to explore these things that are awakening within us. Both the North Node (life purpose) with an exact conjunction to Chiron (the wounded healer) are still in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Relating Aries to psychology, this is considered to be the “sensorimotor stage” of Piaget’s stages of development that occurs between birth and 2 years old. At this stage, babies rely on energy as their primary language of communication, as well as the 5 physical senses, to navigate the new world around them. This is exactly what we are feeling: an adventure into a new world, with new energies that we are trying to navigate. We are learning how to move forward in these new energies, by incorporating lessons that we have learned from past wounds. We are birthing a new way of life for all, and that change has to first begin with the self. So for this lunar cycle, explore, get curious, analyze, and identify. Once you have recognized what needs attention and improvement, commit to the necessary changes within yourself so that you can transform and begin to integrate higher aspects of your soul. This is the path of selfless service. This is the goal of Pisces. This is the cyclic nature of the universe.

Ground your soul, assess your emotions, and allow the energies to alchemize within you.
