Full Moon in Scorpio 2024

On April 23rd, 2024, the Full Moon will be illuminated at 4 degrees of Scorpio. The energy that this full moon carries is of depth, regeneration, and transformation. A Full Moon occurs when the Sun is directly opposing the Moon, illuminating the full, radiant energy the moon carries within the realm of the zodiac sign it occupies. This may cause our emotions to amplify, as well as bring hidden subconscious thoughts and patterns to our conscious awareness for healing. Essentially, the Sun is spotlighting anything we are suppressing within our psyche. With this transit, the Sun is in Taurus, the Moon is in Scorpio, and both celestial bodies are making square aspects to Pluto in Aquarius. This creates a T-Square aspect in fixed modalities between the three planets, with a focal point on Pluto. A T-Square in a fixed modality can feel very stubborn and inflexible. The idea of “This is how I’ve always been; this is how I’ll always be” won’t work anymore (and honestly, it never did). Don’t be surprised if uncomfortable or heavy emotions, thought patterns, or dreams come to the surface. It’s all with the purpose of integration. It is setting us up for the transformation of a lifetime.

Pluto is the dispositor of this Moon, meaning that the Moon is in the home sign of Pluto, and therefore, Pluto has rulership over the Moon at this time. Pluto represents our collective subconscious forces, hidden motivations, and the depths of the psyche. Pluto demands authenticity, intensity, passion, integration, and transformation. With the Moon in this square aspect with Pluto, we are being offered an opportunity for growth. Emotional eruptions allow us to purge old patterns and release what is no longer helping us move forward. It allows us to assess what we have experienced in the past, integrate the lessons, and move forward with new wisdom and insight. After all, we are moving into the Age of Aquarius, and old ways won’t open new doors.

On one side of Pluto, we have a square aspect with the Sun, representing our ego, identity, and self-concept. On the other side, we have a square aspect with the Moon, representing our intuition, emotions, and personal subconscious. With Pluto as the focal point of this transit, I’d like to externalize this T-Square aspect and compare it to a collective integration of the id, ego, and superego. Take this example and apply it to your life, your natal chart.

During the 1890s, Sigmund Freud introduced his psychoanalytic theory that revolutionized the field of psychology and laid the foundations for understanding the subconscious mind, human behavior, and personality development. Freud proposed that much of our mental activity occurs outside of conscious awareness, in the unconscious mind. According to his theory, the unconscious mind contains hidden memories, desires, and unresolved conflicts that influence our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Freud divided the mind into three parts that interact dynamically and help shape personality:

  •         Id: The primal, instinctual part that seeks immediate gratification

  •         Ego: The rational part, mediating between the id and external reality

  •         Superego: The moral conscience, internalizing societal norms and values

With this understanding, I perceive this T-Square aspect between the Sun/Moon opposition with each making a square to Pluto as the three parts of the mind: Pluto acting as the Id, Sun acting as the Ego, and Moon acting as the Superego. On a macro level, we see this in the world conflicts of war and violence. Our Sun, Ego, knows the way to maintain control, thus far in history, has been through battle and force. Our collective Ego has been heavily connected to Pluto, Id, the primal instinct, and the instant gratification of power and control. The Sun in opposition to the Moon requires us to connect with the Superego, the moral compass. With the T-Square to Pluto, we need to recognize, as a collective, that the old ways were never moral. The old ways were never ethical. The old ways were never sustainable. The old ways do not offer harmony, balance, or compassion.

The Moon is also at its fall position is Scorpio - it doesn't like to be here. Illusions are heightened right now with Saturn (Pisces) in a qunicunx aspect to the South Node (Libra). Whatever external thing you think will emotionally fulfill you is an illusion, or a karmic pattern you have yet to break. Pluto in a square aspect to the Moon is trying to help you sort out the emotional illusions from the truth. Don't fall into old patterns, assess these situations from a place of value. What, within you, is is going to bring you sustainable, reliable, and emotional fulfillment? Under this Full Moon, release everything else that feels desperate, unsustainable, and unreliable. Find value and gratitude for what you have, everything you are seeking is already within you.

If we want to change the collective response, we first have to recognize what needs transformation within ourselves. Consider these questions under this Full Moon:

  •         What needs major transformation in my life at this time?

  •         What patterns of my life are holding me back?

  •         What lessons can I find in these patterns?

  •         How can I integrate these lessons into my life?

Interestingly, Sigmund Freud had a T-Square in his natal chart between Saturn (8th House Gemini), Mars (10th House Libra), and Jupiter (5th House Pisces). With Saturn ruling achievement, he may have felt compelled to achieve success within the 8th house realm (sexuality, transformation, subconscious). With Mars and Jupiter contributing to his Saturn focal point, he might have felt ambitious (Saturn) in pioneering (Mars) a new theory (Jupiter). A central theme in Freud's psychoanalytic theory was that psychological health is impaired by the conflict between aggressive impulses (Mars) and the civilizing restraints of society (Saturn).

I believe that our external reality is symbolic of our internal reality. When I feel scattered, confused, or emotional, I look around and realize my living space is also cluttered. Realistically, we can’t clean the world the way that we would clean up our living space. So, for this Full Moon, turn inward, and start there.

Ground your soul, integrate your lessons, and allow the energies to alchemize within you.
